Object pronouns vs subject pronouns – me or I, she or her?
Object Pronouns vs. Subject Pronouns
Understanding the difference between subject and object pronouns can be challenging, but it's important for speaking and writing correctly. Let's take a look at when to use each type of pronoun.
Subject Pronouns
Subject pronouns are used as the subject of a sentence. They tell us who is performing the action.
- I (I am happy)
- He (He likes football)
- She (She is a teacher)
- We (We are friends)
- They (They go to school)
Object Pronouns
Object pronouns are used as the object of a sentence. They receive the action.
- me (Please call me)
- him (I saw him yesterday)
- her (We visited her)
- us (He invited us)
- them (I found them)
Examples
Here are some sentences to help you see the difference:
- She is my friend. (subject pronoun)
- I met her yesterday. (object pronoun)
- They are going to the park. (subject pronoun)
- We went with them. (object pronoun)
Quick Tip:
If the pronoun is at the beginning of a sentence and does the action, use a subject pronoun. If it receives the action, use an object pronoun.
