At, in, on – prepositions of time

Prepositions of time at, in, and on are essential for talking about specific times, dates, and periods. Here’s how to use each one:


1. At


At is used for specific times and precise moments. For example:

  • at 5:00 pm
  • at midnight
  • at noon

Example: We have dinner at 7:30 pm.


2. In


In is used for longer periods of time such as months, years, and seasons. Examples include:

  • in June
  • in 2024
  • in the morning
  • in summer

Example: She was born in May.


3. On


On is used for specific days and dates. Here are some examples:

  • on Monday
  • on January 1st
  • on Christmas Day

Example: We’ll meet on Friday.
